It's been so long since I posted! But no one is reading so I guess it doesn't matter...
Lots to talk about.. Evan and I went to Europe a couple months ago and it was so magical! We started our trip off in Scotland, staying two nights in Edinburgh and one in Dumfries, where we went to a wedding for Evan's friend Josh. Scotland was my favorite part. It was so green and there were so many cute little sheep everywhere!
We took a train from Scotland to London and stayed there for four nights. London was fun too but it was soooo cold! We saw a lot of cool things like Westminster Abbey, The London Eye, Tate Modern, Big Ben, Trafalgar Square, Shakespeare's Globe theater (which was not the original, and I was salty that I didn't know that before we paid admission to get in!), St. Paul's Cathedral, Piccadilly Circus.. etc.
From London, we took the Chunnel to Paris. It was quick and painless, but not very scenic (I guess you can't really see through a tunnel). Paris was very fun, but very dirty. EVERYONE smokes in Paris, so it's virtually impossible to get a breath of fresh air. Jerks. Our hotel room didn't have it's own shower or toilet, so that was an interesting experience. They were relatively clean though, considering they were shared facilities. We day tripped out to Versailles and saw the Palace of the Sun King. It was so pretty! The Hall of Mirrors was cool, and it was so awesome to see all the history! It makes everything seem much more real when you're up close to it all. Marie Antoinette didn't seem like just a story anymore! We saw Notre Dame Cathedral, but didn't go to the top. The cathedral was beautiful, but it was very commercialized. They still hold services there, but they allow tons of people in at a time, don't tell people to be quiet, and allow pictures to be taken. We took a few, but it just didn't seem right. We saw the Eiffel Tower at night, which was very cool. The tower has strobe lights all over it and every hour after dark, they light up to make the tower twinkle. After waiting in line and seeing everything from the top, we came down starving! We stopped at a little snack shack, but since it was late, they only has 'sausage frites', which is fries under hot dogs, drenched in mayonaisse. It was less that appetizing, but when you're starving, sausage frites are good enough! We also went to the Louvre and saw the Mona Lisa. It was small. There were a ton of great paintings and sculptures there, but I think it was too vast to take in in one day. Or at least in the time we were there (we had a tendancy to wake up a little later than we'd like). After seeing the Louvre, we walked all the way down the Champs-Elysees, which is like 80 miles. Ok, it's really only about two and a half miles, but it seemed like forever. Anyway, so after the Louvre and the Arc du Triomphe, we walked back down Champs-Elysees, and as the sun was setting, Evan said, 'Hey, let's go sit on this bench and I'll give you a surprise." A surprise? I LOVE surprises! Well, we sat down and he made me close my eyes and when I opened them he was holding the most beautiful diamond ring! Then he said 'Will you marry me?!' uh, YES!!!!!!!!! It was so magical and amazing! I didn't even know he had the ring or anything. What a sneaky guy! Man I love him!
Well, after Paris, we headed up to Amsterdam. On the train we encountered the stinkiest man on earth. NOT JOKING. I had to breathe through my sweatshirt almost the whole time. Totally disgusting. Ugh. It's burned into my nostrils! Terrible. Amsterdam was fun, but by the time we got there, I had e.Coli in my bladder. We saw the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum, and lots of parks (where our allergies went crazy!). The trip home was much anticipated and enjoyed! Even though we had to spend 8 hours on a plane with the most annoying Dutch kid EVER, and even though we had to sit in the Kentucky airport for 5 hours, and even though I had to go to work the next day, I still was excited to come home. Anyway, the trip was so fun! It was a great experience and so many fun things happened! But my favorite part was Evan, and I get to see him all the time :)
